Information Security Terminology

What are Indicators of Compromise (IoCs)?

Indicators of compromise (IoCs) are discrete pieces of cybersecurity data that alert organizations to attacks on their network, security breaches, malware infections, vulnerability exploits and other security incidents. IoCs might include MD5 hashes, IP addresses, domains, URLs, malicious hosts, signatures, and more. Security analysts collect IoCs to enhance their ability to detect, triage, prioritize, and respond to threats to their business, network, website, and web applications.
